RCP adoption numbers

BZ Media just release their 2005 Eclipse Adoption Survey. Unfortunately, you need to purchase the survey to get access to all of the data. However, they did make public the results of a question about interest in RCP. I was pretty pleased that 25% indicated they were either using or planning to use Eclipse RCP, only 12.3% are using another rich client framework, 20.4% don’t plan on building rich client applications and 42% don’t know.

To me this indicates we still need to do a lot of education about rich client applications and in particular Eclipse RCP. We are starting from a good base but we still have a lot of work to do.ūüôā

I hope the guys are BZ media do the survey again next year, so we can see our progress.

  1. Ed Burnette says:

So is it too late to trademark RCP for Eclipse?

  2. Ian Skerrett says:

I think RCP is a pretty generic term, so it would be difficult to trademark. Now the challenge is to get everyone to think Eclipse = RCP.
